In matters of style swim with the current. In matters of principle stand like a rock” ~ Thomas Jefferson
Thom Carter is a first term member of the Montgomery Township Committee (Somerset County, NJ).
Thom won a decisive victory in November of 2009 running on a platform of lowering debt, turning around bad investments, and helping Montgomery live up to her potential as a community.
Thom attended Montgomery High School, graduating in 1996 and went on to receive a BA in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
Thom career has taken him all over the country, from Nashville, TN; to Columbus, OH; to Washington, DC; to Missoula, MT; to Lancaster, CA; and finally back to Montgomery in the fall of 2005.
Thom has worked in public policy with the Tennessee Hospital Association, the Ohio Hospital Association, the New Jersey Hospital Association, and most recently with Catholic Health East New Jersey, and the American Red Cross.
In 2003 his career took an eventful and adventurous detour. After serving as a staffer for Congressman Mike Ferguson (NJ-7), Thom chased the dream of being a baseball executive and ended up handling minor league marketing for two clubs in the Arizona Diamondback System.
Thom currently works as the Legislative Liaison for the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
While this was a fun adventure and he is grateful for his time in baseball, Thom has happily spent his time since returning to Montgomery serving the people of the Township and the State he deeply loves.
Thom is the son of Gary and Susan Carter. He has two older sisters, a younger brother, six nieces, and two nephews.
“We all carry with us a tremendous potential for excellence. Let us all try to stand a little taller, rise a little higher, and be a little better. Make the extra effort with vigilance and hope; we will succeed in our journey together to Higher Ground” ~ ThomCarter
